More information about this house sitter

I recently completed my PhD in statistics and signed a contract to commence a eleven-month postdoctoral research position in the UK. A quirk of visas and the wording of the job advertisement I applied for means that I can only get paid if I relocate from Australia and am a resident of the UK. So, as soon as my visa paperwork is processed, I will be hopping on a plane.

I don't know when this will be, perhaps as soon as mid-May. There's a wild chance it will be early May, but I suspect it's more likely I will not arrive until June.

Once in the UK, I can, however, work remote on my postdoctoral research project from anywhere in England (I will need to check whether I can get paid anywhere in the UK). I need internet reliable enough to conduct video conferencing and weather some downloading, as software development is a critical part of my work. Beyond that, my preferences are for rural and isolated, or intimately urban, not much of a fan of suburbia, but I suppose each house sit is potentially different; anyways, it would be wonderful to see different parts of England, preferably for months in each place.

I've been living very isolated for many years, on a 20 acre property in Central Victoria, Australia. Can't see my neighbours, and I love it. I love being surrounded by forest. Prior to that, however, I was an inner city grrl. I like adventure, and think this would be a great way to see different parts of the UK.

My team will spend this year applying for longer-term funding for new projects in statistical evidence synthesis, but there is a chance that I might be moving countries at the end of this contract. Hence, house and furbaby sitting could be an excellent fit, as I will only begin with a short-term visa of eleven months.

I've lived with 1-3 cats my entire adult life. I can also follow instructions. I have dogsat, and enjoy walking. I've run my own business, coordinated university subjects, sat on boards and committees.

I will travel to the UK with two suitcases, and I would also obtain some screens for my computer, a whiteboard, and a car.

I'm so excited about coming to the UK to do medical research using statistics and programming.

Do message me if you have any questions, I've no doubt forgotten some important things.

I have a few close friends scattered in universities across Europe, and it'd be nice if they could visit. Also if there is an option for me to be absent for a day or two if a conference or workshop comes up, but these are not deal breakers.

I will update my profile as I have more information about my arrival date.

With regards to my name, it is usually considered an odd name for a woman. My preferred pronouns are she, as in, She's the cats' mother.
