Our affectionate and very special black cat Joey is looking for someone to take care of him and his home while we are in New Zealand with our son and grandson. We hope to fly out just before Christmas and plan to be away for about seven weeks. However if you have other plans for Christmas, we could leave a week or so later.

Joey would ideally prefer a couple or a single lady because he is a real ‘ladies man’ and loves nothing more than a long cuddle on the sofa every night! While you are here, Joey would love it if you could please keep the bird feeder topped up.

Unfortuantely Joey has arthritis in his lower spine/hips but he still enjoys an active life outside in between 'lap time'. He does not play as much as he used to, but he enjoys a vigorous brush as often as possible. Because of his arthritis he will need to see his chiropractor twice while we are away, so a house-sitter who drives would be ideal. But if you do not drive, our neighbour has offered to help out with a lift to the chiropractor.

We live in a 1930s chalet style semi-detached house. We love 1930s design so our home might be described as “retro” retaining as many of the original design features as possible. We are only a 5 minute walk from Eden Park railway station which provides a frequent train service to central London via London Bridge or Charing Cross (approx 40 min train journey).

Off-street parking is available.

Beckenham is a very green borough. There is ready access to open land through a gate in our back garden which is lovely for walking. We are also fortunate in being a few mins walk from Kelsey Park and, further away, Beckenham Place Park. A short drive or bus journey away is the famous Crystal Palace Park where dinosaurs still roam! Open Kentish countryside is only a short drive away.

A Sainsbury’s local supermarket is near the railway station and West Wickham, is a 20 minute walk away. We are only a short bus ride / car drive from Bromley which has the usual high street shops.

Numerous take-aways, cafes and restaurants are nearby.

Although living in what is actually an urban environment we back onto fields and woodland so we have a lot of wildlife visiting the garden in the form of all sorts of birds, foxes and (at times over the years) badgers.

A lovely couple were due to house sit for us again (found through the Mind a Home website) but due to unforeseen circumstances they are no longer able to come, so please let us know as soon as possible if you think you may be in a position to keep Joey company while we are away.
