About this house sitting position in Harpenden

Hi! We are looking for someone to care for our elderly cat Jasper whilst we are away. Jasper has kidney disease so you may need to be able to give him a tablet orally but he is very placid. Jasper has a busy life, moving from chair to settee to bed and sleeping. He does miss us when we go away and will sit and wait outside for us, so we normally use a cattery. This is our first time trying a house sitter. Other jobs include watering the garden and keeping the house as you found it.

Jasper needs feeding 3 - 4 small meals a day with the odd cat biscuit thrown in. As he is on renal wet food it gets yucky really quick in the heat and attracts flies so I like to give him small amounts fresh throughout the day. If Jasper stops eating and drinking he will need to be taken to the vets in the local village, we are insured so no payment will be needed but you would need to ask a neighbour to take you or a cab if you have no car (we would reimburse you). This is very unlikely but wanted to mention it just in case. Jasper is fine being left during the day but not overnight as he stresses.

We live in a lovely small town called Harpenden, just north of St Albans and 25 mins into central London by train. Our house is a 4 bedroomed semi detached house built for the railway workers in 1902. You will have your own double bedroom, we have wifi and sky tv.

We live near Batford Springs nature reserve where you can walk along the river and near numerous cycle paths into the countryside. We have a lovely pub/restaurant across the road.

Harpenden has a train service to London (25 minutes) and surrounding villages and towns such as St Albans but a limited bus service. Off street car parking is available if you need.

Non smokers only and we are a vegetarian house so would ask for care to be taken if cooking meat to clean thoroughly.
