About this house sitting position in Fordingbridge

We live in a thatched cottage in The New Forest with direct forest access and stunning views. We are right on The Common at Woodgreen, looking out at the cricket pitch and across the valley to Breamore House. It really is a beautiful situation. Ponies and cows come right up to our gates. Our village has an excellent community run shop and a pub. There are many places of interest nearby.
As we live in an old cottage, there are low ceilings and beams in some of the rooms.
This is a rural location. It is not isolated but a car is required to reach us easily and to explore the nearby towns/cities of Salisbury, Southampton, Bournemouth and Portsmouth as well as beautiful countryside and coastline. We do not have a car available for the use of housesitters.
In the village we have an excellent shop and post office, selling local produce and all the basics as well. Fordingbridge is just over 5 minutes by car; here you will find a supermarket, other shops, pubs and restaurants. The village pub is very popular and there are plenty of others within easy reach.
Obviously, caring for and feeding the animals is most important. Both our animals are very friendly. Max, our dog, loves people. He is now 13 and has 1 or 2 walks a day at his pace; as he has aged he has much shorter walks and enjoys sniffing interesting smells even more than walking. He is a Lab/Basset cross - looks like a black Lab with very short legs. Bob, our cat, is 2.
The house will need to be kept clean and tidy.
Some plants will need watering.
We have had house sitters for many years and have compiled a folder with most of the information that you are likely to need.
House sitters must be non smokers.

Reviews for Sue

5 stars stars
“Wonderful sit in a charming village with friendly locals; John and Sue were exceedingly hospitable and welcoming, had great local knowledge and advice, and were easy to get in touch with for any questions etc. during the sit. Max is a lovely old dog; very much enjoys exploring walking routes with his nose; expect long, ambling walks in beautiful surroundings. Bob is lively, but does his own thing, and very low maintenance. Had a great time, and would heartily recommend!

Tips for future sitters: public transport is doable, but a car is considerably more convenient. Local shop is excellent (try the venison). The ‘Seek’ and ‘Merlin’ apps are great for appreciating wildlife while on slower paced walks with Max. Large garden is easily manageable while hot, but weeds thrive during wet patches and can get away from you without keener attention. Several village community groups and events – do engage!
