About this house sitting position in Fordingbridge
We are Sue and John Russell and we live in a detached thatch cottage on The Common in Woodgreen, in The New Forest. Ponies, donkeys and cows wander freely and come right up to our hedges. The garden at the back is very private. There are lovely views across The Common towards Breamore House.
Woodgreen is in the north of The New Forest and much quieter than the main tourist spots. It is a very typical English setting.
There is a very good pub in the village, as well as the shop and post office.
Ringwood, Salisbury, Bournemouth and Southampton are all within easy travelling distance. Fordingbridge is only a few minutes drive away. You will need a car for getting around, although there is a good bus service between Bournemouth, Ringwood and Salisbury which stops at Breamore. (About 1 mile away.) We have had house sitters who had been cycling all over Europe and did manage with just their bikes - not for everyone, though.
Our animals are used to house sitters as we have used them for many years. They are both very friendly. Max, our dog, is very elderly now (14) and just needs short walks at his pace. Bob, our cat,is 3. You will obviously be responsible for looking after their needs and sticking to their routines. We also ask that the house is kept clean and tidy.
I have an art and sewing studio which you are very welcome to use and there is a new conservatory opening onto the garden. Both are lovely spots to relax in with a cup of tea or coffee.
House sitters must be non smokers.
We do not usually pay house sitters.

Reviews for Sue
Tips for future sitters: public transport is doable, but a car is considerably more convenient. Local shop is excellent (try the venison). The ‘Seek’ and ‘Merlin’ apps are great for appreciating wildlife while on slower paced walks with Max. Large garden is easily manageable while hot, but weeds thrive during wet patches and can get away from you without keener attention. Several village community groups and events – do engage!” - Read more
