I enjoy the outdoors whether it be walking, cycling or gardening. Whilst walking, I often meet dog-walkers and, if stopping for a chat will always remove a glove so, meeting the dog through sniffing the back of my hand, the dog is at ease and then giving the dog a stroke if appropriate. I'm not sure who gains most from the interaction, myself or the dog! When minding my brother's dog (A Lowchen) in Leeds, I fit in with the set routine so that the dog feels secure. Happy, calm person means happy, calm dog. When minding a friend's elderly cat in Norfolk, the same rules applied of fitting in with the normal routine. Waiting for the cat to choose to come and sit by us was a pleasure and the stroking worth waiting for. It goes without saying that we would leave your home as we found it and treat your belongings with respect.
