More information about this house sitter

I am a retired academic, resident in Cambridge, England, finally able to travel for long periods as I have always wanted. I have lived in many sorts of home in many parts of the world - from the most basic to the most luxurious. To me the most important thing is a feeling of comfort and a reasonable degree of peace and quiet. Although I enjoy meeting people I can be happy on my own for a few weeks or so, as this gives me the chance to recharge the batteries, to read and reflect. I have spent half my life in the country and the other half in cities, so that I am as happy in Manhattan as in the countryside

Much of my house sitting has been done abroad, but for various reasons - not least because I like it - I would like to spend more time in England.

In 2011 I did a house-sit in Seattle, looking after a rescue cat called  Kitty. I have looked afterf two lovely rescue cats in Spain. Last Christmas I looked after another pair in Richmond, London. This year I looked after two very large dogs and a pair of cute cats in Italy, and just recently a pair of cats/escape artists in Germany
I can provide references testifying to the fact that I keep my environment extremely clean and tidy, and that I am a trustworthy person. I think I have the ability, after a life time of teaching people of different ages and nations, to get along with many different sorts of people, and can deal quickly and tactfully with any problems that might occur while I am house-sitting.
 
When house sitting in San Francisco for example there was a problem with flooding, and also with one of the cats becoming seriously ill. As the owner was in Australia and temporarily uncontactable, I had to deal with these problems using my own judgement, and I think the owner will say that I did this in a satisfactory way.
 
For most of my life I have had at least a couple of cats, and often a lot more when there have been kittens. Cats like me and I like them. I am generally good with dogs, although I have never kept one. There aren’t many animals I don’t like in fact. I like figuring out their characters and quirks and reaching some sort of understanding with them. Some have problems and I can be very patient about that.
