About this house sitting position in Burton-On-Trent

We adopted Kiki, a 21-year old cat from the RSPCA on July 4th of this year. Given her age, we assumed she would be inactive and sleep for most of the day. They also told us she was purely an indoor cat.

Once she had settled in though, she became a lot more active. We also found that if we opened the patio doors she would wander out on to the patio and sit out there for hours, weather permitting. Quite happy.

Our original holiday plan was for my brother in law to pop in once or twice a day to top up food and water bowls and attend to the kitty litter box. However, given that Kiki now seems to like being outdoors we feel that it would be wrong to coop her up for the 7 days we are away. Therefore we are now looking for house/pet sitters to be here from the day we leave, 3rd September until the day we get back on the 10th.

Our house is a modern 3 bed semi. The house sitters will sleep in my room, a large room with a king size bed. I can free up a wardrobe and a chest of drawers if you wish to unpack and put away your things. There is a TV in the bedroom and good wifi connection. I only have freeview TV, not sky or any other paid for channels.

We have all the modern conveniences you would expect. Microwave, dishwasher, dryer etc., and of course, broadband internet.

As house sitters you would not be expected to be completely tied to the house for the whole time you are here. As long as Kiki has food and water and a clean litter tray and is indoors if you go out, that’s fine.

About KIKI

She is relatively easy to care for. We have had a couple of issues though where she has peed on the kitchen floor, but this is intermittent. She has also vomited a few times but this was in the early days of us having her, maybe down to a change of environment and food.

She also hates other cats. If our neighbour’s cat comes in to view she hisses, growls and meowls at them quite fiercely. There has never been any actual physical contact between the cats though. I usually diffuse the situation by throwing some water on the patio, not at the cats, but just to cause a noisy distraction.

Kiki is friendly but not overly affectionate. She will sit near you rather than on you and doesn’t pester for attention. In the mornings she will wait until you are up before demanding food, but once she sees you she will demand loudly and persistently.

That’s a brief outline of our house/pet sitting situation. Questions are welcome.
